Dinnie and Dooley Ride-a-thon for Eating Disorder Awareness and Treatment

One of Canada’s first female equestrians and international horse judge Dorinda (Dinnie) Greenway, age 96, will ride her retired Canadian Sport Horse Randule (Dooley) to raise funds for eating disorder treatment on Saturday, May 13, 2017, Mother’s Day weekend. The ride is also timed to raise awareness for the upcoming 2nd Annual World Eating Disorders Action Day (June 2, 2017). The courageous Dinnie and Dooley will be riding into town from their farm in Arva, Ontario to pick up groceries at their local Loblaw’s in London, Ontario. Dinnie, who lost her granddaughter (Michale, age 27) to anorexia, is collecting pledges to help those with eating disorders access treatment. All proceeds from the ride will go towards the WaterStone Foundation, a registered Canadian charity raising money to support its vision: to create healthy lives free from eating disorders.

WaterStone Foundation Third Annual Garden Party Fundraiser for Eating Disorder Awareness and Treatment

WaterStone Foundation, a Canadian charity, hosted its third annual Garden Party on Thursday June 1, 2017 in a private estate in Etobicoke to raise funds and awareness for eating disorder treatment. The event raised a smashing $175,000! The event attracted 200 guests including Free the Children founder Craig Kielburger, 96-year-old Equestrian Hall of Fame Inductee Dorinda Greenway, and EVP of NBC Universal Television Canada Ron Suter who gathered at John Scullion and Michelle Busic’s home in the Kingsway.
Guests enjoyed live jazz by Steve Hagen, fine wines, five-star cuisine, fresh oysters, and The Cheese Boutique’s finest offerings while strolling through the home’s sprawling gardens. Eating Disorder specialist Dr. Anita Federici spoke about a need for more funding in Canada for this mental health illness and WaterStone Board Member Kelly Hall-Holland paid tribute to her magnetic young daughter who lost her battle with Anorexia Nervosa.

Please share your thoughts through words, images, drawings, or videos on the Facebook page, Pensieri e parole, uno sguardo alla vita (Thoughts and Words, A Look at LIfe), a collaboration between Daneila Bonaldi (Goccecolorate.wordpress.com) and Association Ali Di Vita (Association for Eating Disorders). Thoughts collected will be used to make a video with which to express what is not always easy to share with words. This video will be released on June 2nd, World Eating Disorder Day.
